Don’t Quit On That Fitness Plan: For those who have made the resolution to get buff and fit this year, how is it going so far? This is the time of year when many people either give up on their resolutions or have lost that motivational drive. Unfortunately, after a resolved first month, the bitter grayness of February comes around and knocks many of us back a bit. It’s human nature. The key thing to remember is that you can get back on track relatively quickly. Let’s take a look at a few of the things you may be doing incorrectly, so you can fix them and earn the body you want for 2013.
You’re eating too much or too less: Ninety percent of the road to a fit body is diet. The reason why many Americans are overweight is because we simply just take in too many calories. If you eat more than you burn, you’re going to gain weight. Many people overestimate how much they burn. They do a half hour of jogging or lightweights and then go to Wendy’s and order a triple burger combo. However, there are some who don’t eat enough. They are so obsessed with getting cut that they don’t eat enough to encourage muscle growth. This is no good either as your metabolism will go into starvation mode.
You’re eating the wrong things: Everyone’s heard the phrase you are what you eat. It really is true. If you eat French fries all day, you’re going to have oily skin. If you eat too much bread, you’re probably going to be a little doughy. However, if you eat the lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, and tons of fruits and veggies that keep our bodies young, it will show.
When you eat: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for a reason. You fast for eight hours every night and your body needs fuel to get it through the day. While anything is better than nothing, a water soluble fiber like oatmeal as well as lean proteins like eggs and fruit will get you started in the right direction. On days when you’re working out, remember to eat a pre and post-workout meal.
You’re depending too much on supplements: If you can afford them, you should take supplements if you want to see even more growth. Bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts take prohormones and other supplements all of the time to take their bodies to the next level. However, if you don’t work out, drink tons of alcohol and eat whatever you want, you’re not doing yourself any favors.
Doing the same thing each workout: If you do the same workout every time, you’re going to get bored with it and so are your muscles. Challenge your muscles with different exercises, reps and weights to keep them growing and burning fat.
